The Child and Adolescent Unit at Sunshine Coast University Hospital has developed a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to support a series of goals around optimising patient flow and enhancing patient and family experiences. Anne-Maree Holmes will share targeted interventions implemented to tackle these goals, including expansion of the outpatient infusion clinic, revision of referral criteria, increased staffing hours, and enhanced staff education. Outcomes include significant reductions in day-only admissions to the inpatient unit, increase in number of day patients’ treatment, and improvements in patient and caregiver satisfaction. These results underscore the benefits of shifting appropriate care to outpatient settings, leading to improved hospital efficiency and a better experience for paediatric patients and their families.
