The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine is now available for free under the National Immunisation Program to people who are 28 to 36 weeks pregnant.
RSV is a common and potentially serious illness, especially for newborn babies. In 2024, more than 12,000 infants were hospitalised with severe RSV in Australia.
Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is a safe and effective way to protect young babies from severe RSV, from the moment they’re born.
