About the role

The Children’s Ward at Townsville University Hospital is a 30-bed inpatient unit providing comprehensive care to children and adolescents. Our services range from general paediatrics to a wide array of medical and surgical specialties (excluding cardiac surgery), as well as rehabilitation services. We support a continuum of care through our Paediatric Outreach outpatient service, operating seven days a week. Additional specialised services include a Children’s Day Oncology Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, and dedicated paediatric emergency department spaces. Paediatric care is delivered within a multi-disciplinary team, with a strong commitment to family-centred care.

As a Nurse Educator, you will play a crucial role in advancing paediatric nursing education within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). Operating at an advanced practice level, you will design, implement, assess, and deliver nursing education programs, manage educational resources, and provide expert paediatric nursing guidance on key learning initiatives. You will lead and support a culture of professional development and enquiry, fostering an environment of clinical excellence, organisational learning, and supported practice.

A primary focus of this role is the delivery of the Transition Nurse Education Program for Paediatrics, ensuring structured learning and capability building across the paediatric nursing workforce.

Skills and experience

  • Expert nursing leadership and coordination within a paediatric health care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary nursing practices, relevant legislation, and standards.
  • Advanced leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • A commitment to quality improvement, education, and professional development.
  • Exceptional communication skills for problem solving and decision making.
  • A strong understanding of adult learning principles and clinical teaching methodologies.

What’s on offer?

Permanent Full-time, 76 hours per fortnight.

Competitive remuneration package up to $164,696 p.a., comprising base salary range of $132,562 – $143,924 p.a. (+ applicable allowances/benefits) (Nurse Grade 7), recreational leave loading (17.5%), and employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%).

Role requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Highly desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
