Angus Simpson
Rehabilitation Manager | Kids Rehab

Angus Simpson is currently acting as the Neurorehabilitation Manager at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, NSW. He graduated from Macquarie University with a Doctor of Physiotherapy in 2017 and has worked in Physiotherapy, with a particular focus on paediatric neurorehabilitation, since this time. He also has a background in healthcare quality, safety and governance.

Kate Clark
Rehabilitation Service Manager I Rehab2Kids

Kate Clark is currently working as the Rehabilitation Services Manager in Rehab2Kids at the Sydney Children’s Hospital for the last 5 years. With a background of Physiotherapy, previously working as an Executive Care Manager in an aged care facility with a background in healthcare quality, and safety.

Ms. Gai Lovell
Service Manager I HNEkidsRehab

Gai Lovell is currently working as the Service Manager in HNEkidsRehab, which she commenced in a permanent capacity in December 2021, having acted in the role for a number of years. Gai has a background in Occupational therapy working predominantly in the paediatric field since graduating from The University of Sydney in 1991. She is passionate about working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support children and families needing to access rehabilitation.

About

The Review of health services for children, young people and families within the NSW Health system (the Henry Review) included 77 recommendations to NSW Health.

The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) has been responsible for addressing Recommendation 50.

R50 states “The Ministry of Health works with specialist children’s hospitals and LHDs to better coordinate paediatric rehabilitation in NSW”. 

To achieve the aim of “better coordination of paediatric rehabilitation in NSW”, ACI developed the Minimum standards for coordinated delivered of paediatric rehabilitation in NSW Health.

The toolkit is designed to be used to assist LHD and specialty health networks in adopting these minimum standards (MS). The PRS will outline the;

  • Process of development of the MS and toolkit, led by the ACI
  • PRS strategies to implementation the MS

Key Take away from the presentation:

  • NSW PRS MoC” Project paved the way for R50 of the Henry Review
  • The ACI was responsible to led the project addressing R50
  • MS are intended to set the benchmark for the coordination of services providing paediatric rehabilitation in NSW Health
  • 18 MS are grouped into 3 categories: 16 MS pertain to PRS (available ACI website)
    • Care Coordination
    • Virtual Care and eMR
    • Case across continuum
  • PRS strategies to implementation & evaluation how MS are being met within services
