URGENT - Public consultation process for the National Action Plan for the Health of Children and Young People: (Australia)

22 March 2019

An online public consultation process for the draft concept for the National Action Plan for the Health of Children and Young People: 2020-2030 has commenced.

The consultation will close at 11.59pm AEDST on Thursday 28 March 2019.

The link to the draft plan and the consultation survey can be found here: https://consultations.health.gov.au/population-health-and-sport-division-1/establishing-a-national-action-plan-for-the-health/

The draft plan outlines 4 priority themes:

  • Enhance services for rural and remote areas
  • Expand parenting support for families, especially those living with adversity
  • Increase investment in research, policy & practice translation
  • Commit to nationally consistent data collection

Under each of these themes there are 3-4 action areas listed.  These are quite an eclectic list of items.  There is very little on effective early intervention (first 1000 days), or much directly related to children needing child protection services.  It’s also clear that the action items are not necessarily specific to the remit or funding powers of the national government – many fall within the remit of state/territory governments.

I would encourage you to respond directly via the online survey. The CHA will also make a submission and welcomes your feedback to include in the CHA response   It would be very helpful if you could provide comment to Children's Healthcare Australasia by Wednesday 27th March about any priority points you would like to see CHA make in response to this draft Plan.

Please send your submissions for the CHA joint response to: adele.kelly@wcha.asn.au
