Supporting Member Services - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As COVID-19 continues to spread, CHA is focusing on supporting staff of member hospitals to share information & expertise on looking after each other as well as children and their families. 
All staff of member hospitals have access to the WHA & CHA COVID-19 group discussions forum.  This forum is for staff of CHA member hospitals to connect with each other in relation to COVID-19 issues and to share with peers from other paedaitric services their experiences and strategies for managing the impacts on both staff and patients arising from COVID19.

CHA Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will also be holding Web Conferences for SIG members to connect with peers and discuss managing challenges with regards to COVID-19. Topics of discussion will include (but are not limited to) strategies, resource challenges, staffing issues and future plans.

John Hunter Children’s Hospital 

Making coronavirus less scary for children and families
John Hunter Children’s Hospital has provided families a cartoon booklet to help kids understand coronavirus in a fun and reassuring way. COVID-19 is personified by a friendly cartoon character that guides children throughout the booklet. Giving them the opportunity to discuss their feelings about coronavirus while also explaining what it is, its symptoms, and ways that kids can protect themselves from it.  
 

Monash Children’s Hospital

Monash Children’s has also linked a few helpful resources for parents on their website.
One of which is video report by SchoolTV.me which is targeted at parents to help them navigate discussions with their children about COVID-19. 
They have also linked to the Monash Health page which has a section on COVID-19 resources for children. A notable inclusion is the Soapy Hero resources which teach children proper hand hygiene with fun cartoon superheroes Simon and Selina. 

 

Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne

Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne has provided two helpful videos on their COVID-19 FAQ page about how families can keep themselves healthy and safe and how parents can discuss COVID-19 with their children.  

 

Perth Children’s Hospital

In addition to an FAQ page with need-to-know information for parents about coronavirus, Perth Children’s Hospital has specific page with advice to parents of children who are immune compromised. Information is given about medication availability, vaccinations, treatment and appointments during this time, how to keep children safe and more.
