Part 2 - Reducing Geographic Variation and Readmission Rates of Tonsillectomy Adenoid - 27 October 2021 at 12:30pm (AEDT)
Following the presentation in September where ACSQHC provided insight and practical steps into understanding and responding to unwarranted variation. Gillian Nixon will outline the steps that Safercare Victoria has taken to understand variation and support clinical services to reduce variation in rates of tonsillectomy within Victoria.
Key components of this included
Working with clinicians to increase the quality and trust of available data
Improve data linkage to track and accurately report on readmissions
Development of resources for GPs and consumers to support decision making
Improvement project to reduce readmission rates for children following tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy
Key take away from the work undertaken to date are that using and understanding data is key to knowing whether the care you provide is the best it can be. That having clinicians at the table looking at the data improves both the collection and interpretation of data.
