Leading Thinkers Series Web Conference Part 3: Reducing clinical waste: PVC recycling - 18 November, 12:30pm (AEDT)
There is a common misconception that reducing hospital waste and providing safe quality care is an either/or choice.
While it is important to safely dispose of hazardous waste like contaminated PPE, only 15% of healthcare waste is categorised as“hazardous”(link is external). Focusing on the non-hazardous 85% is where hospitals can reduce their waste.
This web conference focuses on innovative strategies that hospitals have used to reduce their clinical waste.
Hear from Megan Shaw, sustainability officer at Sydney Children's Hospital Network, their innovative PVC recycling program, where PVC items, such as IV bags, tubing and oxygen masks, are recycled and manufactured into garden hoses and outdoor children’s playground equipment.
