Paediatric Safety & Quality

Zoom Meeting

About

Leading Better Value Care (LBVC) Bronchiolitis SLHD is an innovative, district-wide, quality improvement initiative focused on enhancing value-based healthcare for infants with Bronchiolitis. Bronchiolitis is a common viral chest infection that leads to approximately 10,000 presentations to emergency departments in NSW annually and 15,000 bed days in hospital. Evidence shows that management often strays from best practice, with patients receiving unnecessary investigations and treatments.

LBVC Bronchiolitis SLHD aimed to simultaneously align practice with best evidence across all Emergency and Paediatric Departments across the District. Strong, engaged leadership built on collaborative relationships, enabled success. A multimodal strategy was utilised to maximise impact and embed changes quickly. The simultaneous roll-out of simplified pathways, education blitzes, eye-catching posters and electronic messaging, as well as modelling from senior staff brought rapid change, excellent outcomes and cost-savings. Consumer feedback was prioritised throughout, with distribution of patient reported experience measure surveys, focusing on issues important to families.
