Beyond Mandatory Education - Strategies for Staff Wellbeing - 23 June 2021 at 12:30pm (AEST)

The focus of this web conference is on two innovations which move beyond mandatory education to support healthcare staff in taking care of themselves to enable them to provide the best care to their patients.

Research tells us that there is an important link between staff self-care and wellbeing and the quality and safety of care delivered to patients. In short, how we show compassion to ourselves influences how we show compassion to others.
This web conference will focus on two innovations which move beyond mandatory education to support healthcare staff in taking care of themselves to enable them to provide the best care to their patients.

Nursewell App – Wellbeing in the palm of your hands
The Nursewell app was developed by a dedicated team of nursing leaders at South-Eastern Sydney LHD with the intention of providing nurses and midwives with the tools to support their self-care and promote wellness and vitality. The content of the app was informed by the NSW ‘Fit for the Future’ survey of nurses’ health which identified key health issues faced by nurses. Activities and resources in this app have been designed to help focus on elements of wellbeing that nurses can practice every day either by themselves or with their nursing teams.
The Nursewell app has been implemented across South Eastern Sydney LHD with lots of success. Across the District the Nursewell app is also profiled and shared to all new employee’s at nursing & midwifery orientation and the topic of wellbeing is incorporated within all leadership & professional development workshops.
By role modelling and enabling self-care in the workplace, nursing & midwifery leaders can positively influence workplace culture to ensure that staff wellbeing is supported.

THIS WAY UP – eMental Health
THIS WAY UP is an e-health learning platform run by clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, researchers, and web technicians based at the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression (CRUfAD) dedicated to tackling psychological difficulties in a way that’s discreet, convenient and effective.
They deliver self-paced evidence-based courses designed to teach practical, psychological skills for managing stress, anxiety, low mood, difficult emotions, and unhelpful thoughts including courses tailored to specific mental health conditions.
The courses mimic the education, skills and strategies you would learn if receiving CBT from a qualified mental health professional face-to-face.
Research studies indicate that, on average, 80% of people who complete THIS WAY UP treatment courses notice a significant improvement in how they feel, with 50% no longer being troubled by their symptoms.
